Description: WWII German SA Dagger – SMF Solingen
The SA Dagger (Sturmabteilung Dienstdolch) was the standard sidearm of the members of the SA (Sturmabteilung or "Brownshirts"), the paramilitary wing of the Nazi Party. The dagger was one of the most recognizable political-edged weapons of the Third Reich and embodies early Nazi militarism and propaganda. Among the many Solingen-based producers, SMF (Solinger Metallwaren-Fabrik Stoecker & Co.) was a major producer of these blades.
Overview
Type: SA Service Dagger (Dienstdolch)
Manufacturer: SMF (Solinger Metallwaren-Fabrik Stoecker & Co.)
Location: Solingen, Germany – known as the “City of Blades”
Period: 1933–1945
Intended Users: NCO and Enlisted members of the SA (Sturmabteilung)
Blade
The blade is double-edged, mirror-polished, and bears the traditional etched motto:
"Alles für Deutschland" ("Everything for Germany")
SMF-marked samples bear the firm's trademark: a stylized "SMF" with the seated knight logo and usually the Solingen city name. The blade must exhibit proper crossgrain finish and sharp motto etching to be authentic. Most early SMF daggers are RZM unmarked, since they were produced before the Reichszeugmeisterei (RZM) standardization.
