Mauser 1914 Pistol
Mauser 1914 is a small, semi-automatic pistol made by the German firearms manufacturer Mauser-Werke. Mauser 1914 was made chiefly as a military and police weapon and is an improvement over the earlier Mauser Model 1910, with a chambering for the more potent 7.65mm (.32 ACP) cartridge.
Design and Features Mauser 1914 is a blowback-operated, single-action pistol with an internal striker mechanism and a fixed barrel. Mauser1914 maintains the traditional Mauser styling with a streamlinedprofile, nicely machined steel parts, and an open extractor on the right side of the slide. The gun is fed from an 8-shot single-column magazine, loaded into the grip, with a heel-type magazine release.
It has one of the unusual characteristics of being a complicated yet sturdy takedown system that secures the slide to the frame through a rotating barrel latch.
Service and Use
Originally produced in 1914, the pistol was used extensively in World War I and was subsequently adopted by police forces and military unitsacross the Weimar Republic and well into World War II. Variants were delivered to the German Luftwaffe and Kriegsmarine, and it continuedin production until the close of World War II.
Variants and Markings
Some sub-variants exist, such as the original Model 1914, the mildlyrevised Model 1934 (with more ergonomic stocks and internalstreamlining), and police/military contract models with specialacceptance stamps like "Eagle/M" for the German Navy or "Eagle/L" for police.
